About the Provincial Demonstration Group

The Provincial Demonstration Group (also known as The George and Dragon Players) was set up in April 2008 with a brief to research material that could be presented in dramatic form to inform, inspire and entertain brethren regarding the history, origins and meaning of Craft Freemasonry and the Royal Arch.

Through their own original research, and by collaborating with other demo teams around the country, the Provincial Demonstration Group have taken on-board ‘best practice’ whilst creating their own unique style and approach to producing and staging historic Masonic plays.

The plays are highly recommended as an educational and entertaining alternative to Craft degree and Royal Arch exaltation ceremonies.

Current Plays

The group's repertoire currently consists of:

  • Lodge Nights 1759, 1760, 1761
    • See how candidates were Initiated, Passed, and Raised back then.

  • How and Why the Royal Arch
    • This play tells the story of how the Holy Royal Arch came into being.

  • In the Beginning
    • This play relates the controversy raging between the Grand Master, The Duke of Sussex, who advocated an annuity and Dr. Crucifix who proposed "an asylum for worthy, aged and decayed Freemasons."

Upcoming Events

Information regarding upcoming plays are posted to the list of notable events in the Provincial website calendar. Also, to the Upcoming Events category on the website's user forum.

Are You a Budding Thespian?

The Provincial Demonstration Group is always on the lookout for new members who are Master Masons or above.

In their own words:

Enjoy fun evenings with historical Freemasonry while ‘advancing your daily knowledge'. When you join this happy band of frustrated thespians you will discover the enjoyment of explaining, in action rather than words, the evolutionary manner in which our lovely organisation has developed over the years.
