Every year, the money resulting from coffee-mornings and other fund-raising events organised by Rushden LAMs (Lady Associate Members) is divided between projects for the upkeep of Rushden Masonic Hall, and a nominated charity.

This year it was decided to donate to Cransley Hospice, a cause close to the hearts of some of their members. The donation consisted of £1,000 from Rushden LAMs plus a further £1,000 from the Provincial Grand Charity.

The presentation took place at a recent coffee morning to which Debbie Grant, Cransley Hospice Fundraising Assistant, and WBro John Rivett, Secretary to the Provincial Grand Charity (PGC), were invited.

WBro John addressed the members present, explaining how the Provincial Grand Charity greatly enhances the donations made by lodges to local charities.

He said that the Provincial Grand Charity was always keen to support the various cancer charities, particularly hospices, and gave some examples of previous assistance that had been given.

John also spoke about the fantastic work done by lodge almoners, and how the PGC strives to provide much-needed financial assistance to distressed Masons and their families.

Debbie Grant then outlined the work done by Cransley Hospice. She particularly mentioned the Hospice at Home initiative whereby sufferers are visited and cared-for at home rather than at the Hospice itself.

In the space of a year, over 1,100 home-visits had been made thus resulting in 250-patients being treated at home whilst less than 200 required in-house treatment. This is such a growth area that funding has been significantly increased to provide more staff so that the service can respond faster and render additional support to patients and their families. It is in this area of the Hospice's work where the money is likely to be used.

Rushden LAMs have since made a much-appreciated donation of £250 towards the work of the Provincial Grand Charity.

We congratulate Rushden LAMS on all they've achieved and thank them for their most valued support.
