It has been a long-established custom of Coritani Lodge No. 8079, which meets at Daventry Masonic Centre, to hold a lecture at their February meeting. In recent years, the first three parts of the 1st Degree lecture have been presented.

However, by way of a change, brethren attending the meeting held on Thursday the 27th of February 2020 were pleased to receive a highly informative and entertaining lecture on the subject of Masonic aprons. The lecture's author was WBro Bill Purcell of Kingsley Lodge

The lecture explained how the basic protective garment worn by operative Masons evolved into the decorative and symbolic aprons worn by Freemasons today.

During the presentation, WBro David Smith modelled a very detailed and impressive mock-up of an early apron as created by WBro John Percival.

Several other brethren modelled aprons ranging all the way from Entered Apprentice to Grand Officer.

The evening was rounded off by a famous Coritani Steak Pie festive-board and a rousing singalong.

All in all, it was a superb night enjoyed by all those who attended.
