Bicentenary Appeal 2013 - The Royal College of Surgeons of England

At the 5 September convocation of Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire Chapter of First Principals No 3422 at Sheaf Close, Northampton, we shall be holding our own Provincial celebration to mark the Bicentenary of the Holy Royal Arch, 200 years of formal recognition following the Act of Union in 1813.

Celebrations are also scheduled to take place in London on 16 October.

Our First Principals' Chapter meeting will be open to ALL Companions and as we anticipate a healthy response, places will be allocated on a "first come, first served basis."

The programme will include a Banner dedication for First Principal's Chapter to be donated by Province. We shall be honoured by the presence of the Second Grand Principal – E Comp George Pipon Francis – on a welcome return to Northampton. He will address us during the course of the proceedings.

We will also be privileged to have with us again representatives from the Royal College of Surgeons and they too will be only too pleased to make brief presentations on the work currently being undertaken in their own, individual specialised fields of medical research.

Our First Grand Principal – HRH The Duke of Kent – launched the Appeal in the name of Supreme Grand Chapter three years ago to raise in excess of £1m to fund an additional two medical research fellowships to serve as a permanent memorial of our Bicentenary celebration. This is perhaps the first occasion upon which Supreme Grand Chapter has launched an Appeal in its sole name.

The response has been quite magnificent. In this Province particularly, we will have far exceeded the financial expectations of us. The generosity of individual Companions, their Chapters and our colleagues in other Orders of Masonry has been quite outstanding. We will have again enhanced the fine reputation of the Province of Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire. Whilst the central Appeal will continue to run on until the end of the year, our cheque for the total sum raised will be presented to the Second Grand Principal on 5 September, bringing our campaign to a very successful conclusion.

Try and be there – you will be most welcome and rest assured, further contributions to such a worthy Charity will be thankfully received and faithfully applied.
