Royal Arch News

It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of WBro/E Comp Ian Nelson to the Grand Lodge above on 4th October 2023 at the age of 73. Funeral details added below.

23 10 05 Ian Nelson 2

Ian was well-known to many across many Orders in the Province. He was a keen Mason, ritualist and researcher. He was Secretary of Grey Friars Lodge No.4990, Scribe E of St John’s Chapter No. 3972, a member of both Northants & Hunts Lodges of Installed Masters No. 3422 and First Principals No.3422.

He also worked tirelessly at a Provincial level and was appointed Provincial Scribe E for the Royal Arch Province in June of this year. In addition he was appointed active ProvSGD in the Craft in May 2023 and was a long-serving member of the Provincial Communcations Committee and a Local Communications Officer in Northampton.

E Comp Mike Binsted, Second Provincial Grand Principal said,
'He was an energetic and amiable person, eager to help wherever he could and a mine of Masonic information. He will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Helen, and family at this trying time'.

Ian Nelson’s wife, Helen, requests that, at his funeral, we should wear colourful or humorous ties and NOT black or Masonic ties. Outside of Freemasonry, Ian always wore a colourful or humorous tie as a talking point with the children he met in his role as a School Inspector.

The funeral will be held at 1300 on Friday 3 November at Nene Valley Crematorium, 305 Doddington Road, Wellingborough NN8 2NX and afterwards at Freemasons’ Hall, Sheaf Close, Northampton NN5 7UL
