On 18 March 2011 Sothius Lodge No 8774 in St Ives has made a donation of £1,250 to Help for Heroes the charity set up to help wounded service people. The money was raised at seven monthly raffles at Lodge meetings and five social events. The Provincial Grand Charity gave a top up of £500.
The cheque was presented by the 2010/11 Master of the Lodge, WBro Mike Nixon, who commented, "I decided to make Help for Heroes one of my charities for the year as I am ex service (RAF) and read about the wonderful work the charity is doing. It is a pleasure to give to such a well deserving charity.
Receiving the cheque, Terry Downing, the Huntingdonshire volunteer representative of Help for Heroes said "Many thanks to your Brethren for the kind donation of £1,250. That is absolutely fantastic and I can't thank you enough. As far as we know, Help for Heroes is the only charity that can say it is 100% effective - we can guarantee that for every £1 donated, £1 will go directly to helping wounded service men and women. So, we do exactly what we say on the tin – your donations go directly to supporting the wounded boys and girls".
