The Brethren of the Vale of Nene Lodge No 7006, were recently pleased to be able to donate £1000 to the Peterborough Soup Kitchen.
The donation, which included support from The Provincial Grand Charity, will help in supporting this charity, which is run entirely by volunteers. They aim to provide the homeless and destitute people in Peterborough with a hot meal once a day, six days a week throughout the year. Demand on their services is increasing and they currently provide around 50 meals a day – or about 15,000 a year. Chairman Ian Davies commented:
In the face of dwindling support from the local authority this donation will go some way to help overcome our shortfall in funding to provide some relief to the needy in the City.
The Worshipful Master of the Vale of Nene Lodge, WBro John Mills, accompanied by WBro Ian Nicholls on behalf of the Provincial Grand Charity, presented the cheque to Chairman Ian Davies and to Rowena, one of the hard working volunteers.
