Three Pillars Feeding The Homeless Trust has been running for a year and there have been a number of highlights. This is the first in a series of stories:
Tibor is a 59-year old Slovakian who has been homeless for 7-years following being made redundant from his job.
His mental health along with his physical health is poor and he had attempted suicide on a number of occasions.
He told the volunteers at the Three Pillars Feeding The Homeless Trust that he could not face another winter on the streets and he was extremely stressed.
With the assistance of the YMCA in Peterborough they were able to get Tibor into permanent accommodation, particular thanks must go to Stuart Reid who is a manager at the YMCA. They found him a room which includes a kitchen, on-suite, bedroom and small sitting area for him to stay. When he asked; ‘How long can I stay?’ Stuart told him indefinitely, he didn’t understand what indefinitely meant, ‘one month two months’. It was explained that it meant as long as he wanted to stay, in essence for ever. He knelt down at the bed and clasped his hand saying ‘Thank you God’ and then sobbed out loud and shook uncontrollable which was visibly very moving for those that witnessed this special moment for Tibor.
The YMCA have registered him with a Doctor, Dentist and a mental health nurse as well as sorting out his benefits and housing allowance. Three Pillars provided Tibor with bedding, kitchen utensils, toaster, kettle, microwave, pans, cutlery and plates.
Now Tibor has become one of our regular volunteers and helps us at the feeding station.
