Passing of WBro Kenneth John Briers PGStB

We are saddened to report the recent passing of WBro Ken Briers PGStB to the Grand Lodge Above. He was 89-years old.

Over the years, WBro Ken was a regular visitor to the Provincial Office having served as acting ProvAGSec for a brief period, Provincial Information Officer for several years in the late 90's, and more latterly, the role he was perhaps best known for, that of secretary to the Board of Freemasons’ Hall (Northampton) Limited, an office which he filled with distinction and a calm authority before standing down earlier this year due to his failing health.

Ken was promoted to Grand Rank in 1994 and also served as a Group Officer in Northampton.

Ken was firstly a London Mason. Not only did England win the World Cup in 1966, Ken was initiated into Lodge of Justice No. 147 that same year, subsequently becoming Worshipful Master in 1999.

By then, Ken had also become a joining member of the Province's De la Pre Lodge No. 1911 where he took the Master’s Chair twice, in 1988 and 1993. He was subsequently elected as an Honorary Member of De la Pre Lodge in 2016 to recognise his 38-years of dedicated membership

Ken became a joining member of Gates of Billing Lodge No. 9309 in 1989 as well as a Founding Master of Scout Lodge No. 9814 in 2006. Not surprisingly, due to his continued dedication and commitment, Ken was elected as an Honorary Member of both lodges in 1995 and 2016 respectively

Having been exalted into Eleanor Cross Chapter No. 1764 in 1989, E Comp Ken took the Chair of Zerubbabel in December 2000, and having served in all senior offices within his Chapter, was rightly promoted to the Provincial rank of PPrGSN in 2020.

WBro Ken served this Province well - a mentor to many a young Mason, an enthusiastic and dedicated member to all those Lodges in which he served, and a good and true friend to so many of us. He will be sorely missed - one who lived so respected and died very much regretted.

Ken also served as verger of All Saints Church in Northampton and as parish treasurer for many years. He would often lead worship and welcome those visiting the Church; he will be greatly missed by all.

Ken's widow, June, does not enjoy the best of health herself. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family at this very sad time.

May Ken now rest in peace.
