The lodge demonstrated the work of the deacons by having the senior deacon take a note from the Worshipful Master to the Junior Warden via the Senior Warden and Junior Deacon. The note was a request for the Junior Warden to hand the jubilee certificate via the same path in reverse, a perfect example of the deacon’s duties in action. The Worshipful Master then invited W Bro Norman Pope to present the certificate to W Bro Turner.

W Bro Turner was born on April 11th 1928 in Northampton and while most of us study history W Bro Turner had lived it. He attended Northampton School for Boys where he was known to be steady and reliable, a phrase repeated many times as W Bro Pope teased W Bro Turner for information about his life. At another mention W Bro Turner retorted, “Do you mean I am boring?”, which brought a chuckle from the assembled brethren.

W Bro Turner, a chartered accountant by profession, was initiated into the lodge in 1971. He went through the chair in 1982 and became chaplain in 1984, a post he held for 18 years. He then moved to become organist, a position held for twenty years. He received a standing ovation from the brethren as W Bro Pope presented him with his certificate, a clear indication of the love and affection and the high esteem that the brethren of Old Northamptonian have for a great brother, who might be steady and reliable but is far from boring.
