The Masonic Housing Association (MHA) provides sheltered housing for independent living in five provinces. As MHA approaches its 50th anniversary, we want to assess the housing needs of Freemasons and their immediate families, especially when entering their later years.
With rising costs and inflation, the pressure on older people to downsize has never been greater. However, the country is in the middle of a housing crisis with one in five older people trapped in their current home because of a shortage of suitable alternatives. Add to this the growing number of older people living alone and suffering from loneliness and it could be assumed that there is a potential growing need amongst masons and their families for communities providing appropriate housing which cater for the unique needs of older people.
