Corby Ladies Associate Members (LAMs )
What is it?
Ladies Associate Members (LAMs for short ) are a group for females that have a connection to a Freemason e.g. wife, partner, daughter, mother, widow or friend etc.
Why Corby?
There are 2 other LAMs groups within the Province, one meeting at Sheaf Close in Northampton and one in Rushden. It was viewed that there were a growing number of ladies who would appreciate a similar group in Corby and having sought advice from The Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro Mark Constant, he was only too pleased to give its formation the green light.
Do we wear Regalia?
As an association we are not a Lodge or Chapter and that means we do NOT perform Ritual or wear any regalia.
What will we do?
The main purpose is Friendship, bringing ladies together with a common interest that all partners have a link to Freemasonry. LAMs membership may be of particular help for newer members to develop friendships and involvement in local activities.
The LAMs are a non-profit organisation and so their main fund raising focus is for funds to be spent in support the complex, with any monies remaining, donated to a local charity by agreement with the committee.
Various events are planned including Burns nights, afternoon teas, coffee mornings, cake sales and many more.
When will we meet and where?
It is proposed that the new group will meet once a month on a Saturday morning at the Corby complex for coffee and chat or a speaker or maybe even a craft/workshop then every other month on a Friday evening in an outside venue such as a pub, restaurant, or maybe even ten pin bowling.
This way it is hoped that we can attract a wide range of ladies to join from those that work or have family commitments to those that maybe don’t like to be out late of a night and prefer the daytime.
How much will it cost ?
Our first year Membership will be set at £20 per year, renewable/payable each year.
So why?
Well why not? It will raise funds to help the complex from supporting maintenance of the complex to buy things such as chair covers which can be used at ladies nights or other events. We can help arrange events from Burns night or BBQ’s for the family or coffee mornings to help attract new members, by allowing ladies of non-members to join us it might bring in their partners / husbands. It’s main purpose is friendship, bringing ladies together that have a common interest in that our men are all Freemasons, so we can support each other through the good and bad to help each other as our Freemason journeys progress hopefully to the big chair and then holding ladies nights. To helping the new members wives/partners to share ideas, and just enjoy each other’s company!
All we need is your support - without you it will not work.
When does it start?
We are planning to start in September 2025.
Any Other Questions?
I hope this has helped to allay any worries and answer a few questions, but should you still have any, I will try to answer them as best as I can.
