On Sunday 14 September 2025. W.Bro Tim Russ (Stamford Group Officer) took part in an 88km Charity Cycle Ride from London to Brighton. The charity will have helped, and certainly will help and assist in the teatment of many Freemasons both local and countrywide. Tim’s story is below and he would still welcome further donations.
In 2021 I underwent several serious and lengthy operations in Papworth Hospital where my treating surgeon was Mr Aman Coonar who has this year become the president of the society of coronary and thoracic surgeons (SCTS)
SCTS is also a charity that pays for research in relation to heart and lung conditions and surgical techniques to cure such things as lung cancer which is what I was suffering from. I thought it would be a good thing to support given my link with the president.
In short 36 riders rode yesterday over an 88 km route fundraising for the charity. I've so far raised about £1100 which I intend to donate to them later this week. I completed the ride in about four hours. It was very difficult compared to most of the rides that I have done because of the very large number of riders with poor road sense and the very large number of quite steep hills going through Surrey and Sussex but was a very enjoyable experience. It is a bit like the London Marathon for bike riding although probably not quite as difficult.
Hopefully the money that I raised will be used to improve outcomes for patients in particularly because of the large number of stories you hear in lodge meetings about people who have had heart or lung surgery, so will be generally doing good for members of the Craft.
Tim has so far raised over £1000 and is still accepting donations via his “Just Giving” page at the following link:
