Four members of St Wilfrid Lodge No. 4453 successfully completed the Maggie’s 30km Walk on Sunday 29 March, joining around 50 participants in support of those affected by cancer.
Representing the Lodge were Kevin Calvert, Jonathan Waterworth, Richard Reynolds, and Tom Webster, who set off at 08:00 from the Maggie’s Centre in Northampton.
The event brought together individuals walking for a variety of deeply personal reasons—many having experienced the charity’s support first-hand or through loved ones—while others, including our team, were motivated by a shared desire to contribute to such a worthwhile cause.
Covering approximately 30km (18.5 miles), the route proved physically demanding, but the team completed it ahead of schedule and in good spirits. A collection of photographs from the day captures both the scenic surroundings and some lighter moments along the way, as the group admitted there were times they were “questioning their life choices.” Outstanding Fundraising Effort
The team originally set a modest fundraising target of £200–£300 per person. However, through presentations at meetings, engagement with fellow Lodges, and the generosity of colleagues and supporters, they significantly exceeded expectations.
To date, the team has raised £3,387, with a further £768 in Gift Aid, bringing the total to £4,155. On the day of the event, Maggie’s confirmed that overall fundraising had already surpassed £10,000, with donations continuing to be received.
