It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of VWBro Michael Herbert, OSM, PGSwdB, PPJGW (Leics & Rutland) at Devonshire Court, Oadby to the Grand Lodge Above on 11th August 2024.
VWBro Michael was initiated into Freemasonry in 1961 with Gartree Lodge No 7778 in the Province of Leicestershire & Rutland, but was also a long standing member of Old Kimboltonians' Lodge No. 7204 in Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire since 1996, serving as Worshipful Master in 2016.
Michael’s accolades as a Freemason include being Past Grand Sword Bearer in Craft and Past Grand Sojourner in Royal Arch, while he was Deputy Grand Master in the Mark. Above all, he was awarded in June 2023 what is considered the highest honour the Grand Master can confer, the Order of Service to Masonry, with the letters OSM preceding any other rank achieved.
The Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro Mark Constant paid this tribute, ‘This is very sad news as many will have fond memories of a great Freemason and a lovely man. He truly lived respected and died regretted'.
