Compared to the epic voyages of the great Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, mine has been a mere splash in the ocean! But my Masonic Portuguese odyssey has certainly been a pleasurable and often exciting voyage of discovery. Which is why I now recommend it to you.
The Lodge of the Oldest Ally meets just twice per year. Once in our Province and again in Portugal. The membership consists of 50/50 British and Portuguese brethren.
Portugal is indeed Britain’s oldest ally – the Anglo –Portuguese treaty dates 1373 and is the oldest alliance in the world that is still in force today.

It is with great sadness we have to report that W.Bro John Lawrence Shelton PPJGD passed to the Grand Lodge above on the 10th September 2023. Lawrence had been ill for a long time and had suffered great pain but with much dignity. He was at home with all his family.
